FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What level do I need to be for off-piste lessons?
Confident, comfortable skiing on-piste on red runs is a good starting point. We'll always match the terrain to your ability on the day.
Do I need special equipment for off-piste?
Yes - you'll need an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe as a minimum. If you don't have your own, we can advise on rental options locally in Nendaz.
Is off-piste skiing safe?
Off-piste always carries inherent risk, which is why every day is led by an instructor holding the Brevet Fédéral - the Swiss qualification permitting off-piste instruction - with deep local knowledge of the terrain, snowpack and current conditions. We tailor the route and pace to keep things enjoyable and appropriately safe for your ability.
Can beginners to off-piste join?
Absolutely - your first off-piste experience is a great place to start. We'll begin on more accessible terrain suited to you, and build your confidence in variable snow at your own pace before progressing further.
Can lessons be for one person or a small group?
Yes - off-piste days are fully private, so it can be just you or a small group of friends/family skiing together with your own instructor.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as possible, especially during school holidays and peak weeks, as availability is limited with private instruction.
What happens if conditions or weather are unsuitable for off-piste that day?
Safety comes first - if conditions aren't right for off-piste, we'll adapt the day to excellent on-piste coaching instead, so your day on the mountain isn't wasted.
Do I need my own insurance?
Yes - all clients must have their own personal insurance covering off-piste skiing specifically, including piste rescue and medical costs. Standard on-piste-only policies often don't cover off-piste terrain, so it's worth double-checking before booking.
Do I need a full 4 Vallées lift pass?
Not necessarily - it depends on where the day's route takes you. We'll confirm exactly what's needed once we've planned your day.
Can I get a discount on my lift pass?
Yes - buying your lift pass online in advance (rather than at the ticket office) gets you a discount on daily passes, so it's worth booking ahead of your trip.
