Nendaz, 7 reasons why you should ski here
Sunday September 16th, 2018
These days there are so many choices for your annual ski trip that it can become difficult to decide where to go!
Below are 7 reasons why WE choose Nendaz and why we think you should come and explore the mountains here!…
1. Nendaz – the core of the 4 Vallées
Nendaz is located right in the middle of the world famous 4 Vallées region which is made up of the main mountain villages of Verbier, Veysonnaz, Thyon, Siviez and Nendaz.
Offering 412 km of some of the best European skiing, Nendaz and the 4 Vallées has something for everyone.
Nendaz has the quickest access to the Mont Fort (3,330m) the highest area in the 4 Vallees region, making it the easiest place to explore all the terrain during your stay.
It’s world famous for its freeride/backcountry terrain and it’s immense vertical distance skiing from top to bottom and offers some of the best challenging intro to off-piste terrain with its 8 unique itinerary routes (which are secure off-piste routes) across the region.
Nendaz is proud once again to host it’s very own 13th International Freeride World tour competition from 8th – 20th March 2019.
2. The unique Nendaz ski area
We think it’s the hidden gem of the 4 Valleys! The Nendaz ski area caters for all levels of skier with excellent terrain progression.
If you’re on holiday with a group of mixed abilities, it’s the perfect venue to ensure everyone has a great time. The beginner’s area is at the top of the main gondola. Right from the start you feel like you’re ‘getting the full mountain experience’.
A huge frozen lake offers a vast range of progressions for the novice skier (magic carpets, kindergarten ski area and a series of tow lifts). This area also has a small café and activities for children, such as sledging and tubing, to break up the learning experience and keep it fun!
With a choice of wide spaced-out pistes to move on to, allows ALL skiers to really progress.
For more advanced skiers, there’s endless pistes and hidden areas to explore. If challenging black pistes and a former world cup run aren’t enough to test you, there are a number of itinerary runs to choose from – these will definitely give your legs a real work out!
So the big advantages are…
- Far less lift queues
- Great wide-sweeping pistes with the most vertical
- Loads of varied tree skiing
- North facing slopes that stay reliable throughout any winter
- The most amount of snow canons in the region making it very reliable from early December to mid-April.
3. Great village accessibility
Most hotels are all 5 minutes’ walk to the Télécabine lift station. Nendaz has a fantastic free bus service with 5 routes running throughout the season, so no matter where you stay, you can get around easily.
4. Hidden nuggets for great lunches
There are a number of tasty lunch venues many of which can be accessed with or without skis giving everyone the unique mountain experience. In the evenings there’s so much choice for traditional alpine cuisine which can be personally recommended to you by our instructors!
5. Nendaz accommodation at sensible prices
Everyone believes Switzerland is expensive but staying here in Nendaz – it’s a mountain resort that offers good value for money. There’s so much choice in apartments and chalets to rent at sensible prices as well as a diverse choice of BnBs and hotels. We, at Montagne Magique, can always help and advise on places to stay.
6. Easy access to Nendaz
Another big pull to Nendaz is that it’s only a 2hr drive from Geneva Airport or a 2hr train direct to Sion then 25 minutes taxi or bus up! So this means you could be sitting at your desk in the morning and easily be in Nendaz that evening in time for dinner – so perfect for those long weekend getaways!
7. Local party vibe!
Nendaz doesn’t claim to be a big party resort like Verbier – instead there’s a more local vibe where you really feel part of the community in the bars and restaurants during your stay here. There’s still the infamous après scene and a number of great bars to party in.
There’s a much more European feel to the village with a wide range of nationalities that both live here and are holiday makers including Brits, Belgiums, Dutch, French, Spanish and Italians as well as the local Swiss-french! So it’s a fun, friendly atmosphere to be a part of.
In short, Nendaz has a very pleasant down-to-earth feel about it, allowing you to meet fun like-minded people who just want to enjoy the magic of the mountains whether they’re a beginner or powder hound on and off the piste!
